Turkish authorities have banned a movie starring Daniel Craig called “Queer”. The organisers of a festival previewing the movie have cancelled their event in protest at the banning. Authorities in Turkey say that the decision was taken due to the provocative issues in the movie triggered a security issue and that it endangered public peace.

How many here feel that this is suppression, and does anyone want to speculate on the reason why this movie is being banned, the implications going forward for Turkey and indeed for other countries who may have similar “security issues”?

And yet the left are the sensitive ones who ban everything, right?

To be fair though: who wants to see James Bond in a film called "Queer"? It'll be like seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger in that movie where he was pregnant.

I agree. Keep your garbage in your own country.

To answer your question:

This is suppression. As far as "implications", Turkey deliberately made itself a secular state. However, Erdogan has gradually pushed Islam into Turkish law. So maybe it's a gradual move toward theocracy.

That's a point. Keeping Islamists happy by moving the government towards theocracy

Agreed. Him allowing Islamic influence has suppressed freedom of speech and in this case freedom in the arts.
