When will it become illegal to knowingly employ an “illegal”? Housekeepers, gardeners, day laborers, etc.

When will it become illegal not to ascertain the legal status of an employee?

When will it become illegal not to report a person we suspect is an “illegal”?

What, exactly, keeps these things from coming to pass?

They are in many jurisdictions, if only local law enforcement did not turn a blind eye to businesses that hire undocumented workers. Here in Maricopa County, Arizona, we had a sheriff, Joe Arpaio, who loved to get on TV and claim that "I can't cherry-pick which laws to enforce" after the latest round-up of employees at some restaurant. And yet he did exactly that, by refusing to ever arrest ANY business owners who hired these undocumented workers. Oh, he'd threaten them with arrest, alright, until they agreed to let him put his efforts on local TV to boost his own popularity among his conservative base.

So clearly, it depends on who you talk to.

I’m thinking more of the numerous (in my area) households who have housekeepers and/or sitters (of pets, babies and elders) and odd job handymen who prefer cash and who bring anonymous helpers with them. Technically you are correct but it’s a don’t ask, don’t tell part of the economy. I imagine a good many wealthy Republican donors have a Maria who is practically a family member.

Any administration who can flip asylum-seeker processing from FIFO to LIFO to make life more difficult for the wait-listed can’t be above cracking down on domestic workers, unless doing so irritates their employers.

The right wing is so hypocritical about this issue. There are thousands of conservative business owners in America who make massive profits off the backs of undocumented workers from Mexico and elsewhere who work in American restaurants, hotels, etc. yet these are the same people who back Trump and his silly wall idea.

    Privacy laws.
It’s up to you to pay taxes, not the boss.
Many times that’s arranged, but if it’s not, who is anyone to enquire of another personal information? Why not demand their willy size and width of their wife’s vag while you’re at it?

And someone can’t be illegal anyways.
Some laws can suggest you’re doing something illegal. But to call someone, a whole being, illegal is complete madness.

Borders? Birds and moles don’t have to stick to them? Why the hell do they have more rights than people?
    Madness.
