This is Rich! You fellers rail on about horrible billionaires, not a moment’s thought of philanthropy. You see, Colleges live on these donations, their Trust Funds. These liberal faerie professors have turned the money away!!! Tuitions will go up, and your faerie marches will continue. Libs are short sighted, cannot see the forest for the trees.
I have often said that you will win in the end. I now add a new sentence to that. What will you win?

― Simonides
@mchill saidAnd we are to surmise what from this quote? Speak now, think later???? To let them speak as they may, without consequence? Did you miss my part that you libs do not think?
“I have often regretted my speech, never my silence.”

The most obvious thing is that this loser is like a guy screaming at a baseball player, from a stand of 50,000 people, as if they hear, or, care.
Secondly, he didn't think that his 'speaking' would cause turmoil.......and, for naught.
Do you libs not see your desolate points of view and incorrect ways of projecting it? Signs, street walking, while everyone else is working:?
Oh,,,,,,and free speech. Did this Simonides Seer think ahead? This almost qualifies in the 'crowded theater' genre'.
@averagejoe1 saidSimonides was a Greek poet, not a republican.

As a poet, Simonides would attach a meaning to each word, it's what poets do. Paraphrasing, for those who don't see that:
I have often wished I hadn't said a particular thing, but I have never been sorry for keeping my thoughts to myself.
Many aphorisms follow the concept:
still waters run deep
the strong silent type
empty vessels make the most noise.
I have never understood the American obsession with "free speech". Speech is never "free". Every word you say can create, or improve, or develop, or heal; but it can also deny, control, reject or destroy. Truly free speech would destroy humanity. I don't believe your Founding Fathers had that outcome in mind.
@kewpie saidMost of the people who cannot see that most speech is already free try to create the illusion that their speech is being suppressed only because they use speech that is meant to be denying, controlling, destroying, and they're just whinging because society does not allow them to scream "Fire!" in a crowded theater. When one is antisocial, they should not be surprised when society tries to limit their control over society.

@averagejoe1 saidWhy are you such a fan of autocracy?

In a just and fair society, the rich should never be in total control of government.
@suzianne saidI agree, the rich should not control government, I don't get that. This would be a matter for another thread, but your post is an example of not closing your posts. What would you have us do with rich people who 'mean well' with their money? What if Marauder had a great campaign, running for president under a marxist flag? Would we not welcome some rich guy knocking him down? You don't seem to mind the Soros money, Suzianne. I rest my case.
Why are you such a fan of autocracy?

We may consider Soros as an autocrat, together with Bloomberg and people you have never heard about. Have you ever heard of Larry Fink? These are your people. They want to be in the control you speak of.
@kewpie saidYes, truly free speech will cause people to die in the theater. So, yes, it follows that this particular free speech would destroy 100 people in a theater. All of this is a given, unarguable.

@AverageJoe1
Regarding the point of this thread, the Foundations who threaten to pull money from the University represent FIVE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS.
So if they do that, tuition will rise, and the bespectacled skinny whiners with scraggly hair will not be able to get in to Voice Their Opinions!!!!!
Why do you fellers not see the good that the rich do?
@averagejoe1 saidI guess filling the universities with stupid entitled rich kids must be a great idea for American civilisation.

@wildgrass saidThat's not what I am saying at all. I could be a Haddish from NYC, but I sure would not bite the hand that feeds me.
Is this cancel culture Joe? Take them down because you don't agree with their opinion?
Do you know what that means, to not bite the hand that feeds me? How bout you show up at a College Conference where the lack of donations is the main topic, and you say...."So, you are mad at this professor for being political? Shouldn't he be allowed to say whatever in his teachings? To give his personal opinions? Can he say it was OK for the USA to bomb Hiroshima???" That is a personal opinion, you see, but you libs are waaaaaaaayyy beyond logical thinking. Ask Shav, (who says we should not have bombed) if it is OK for a prof to say that it is OK that we bombed.
My logic is too simple.
