Now this is the way to take the oath of office during this administration.

    https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/no-sleeves-no-bible-no-202600722.html

My new Senator, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, takes the oath of office on a book containing copies of the US Constitution and the Arizona Constitution, not on a Bible. The very first openly bisexual Senator, she's having fun with it while VP Pence looks like he'd rather be ANYwhere else.

    And she looks fabulous!

She represented my district in Arizona in the US House for years before making the jump to the Senate. Finally a Senator from my state I can be proud of.

This lady is pretty smart, I was impressed with her educational credentials (below) her law degree, and her experience as U.S. Representative from Arizona's 9th congressional district tells me that she understands the nuts and bolts of how to govern (unlike our beloved President) I'm sure Kyrsten Sinema will do a good job.
    🙂

Sinema graduated as valedictorian from Walton High School at age 16 and went on to earn her B.A. from Brigham Young University in 1995 at age 18. She left The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after graduating from BYU. Sinema received her Master of Social Work degree from Arizona State University in 1999. In 2004, she earned a J.D. degree from Arizona State University College of Law. In 2012, she earned a Ph.D. degree in Justice Studies, also from Arizona State

Childish name calling. My friends and I used to do this in the 2nd grade on the school playground, but that was decades ago and we all grew out of it. It's sad to see you and Whodey have not.

She's four months older than me, I can totally relate.

It's interesting to swear on a "law book."

Especially a law book which contained material at one point which recognized black Americans as three-fifths of a white American, and outlawed alcohol (and then legalized it again).

    What alternative would you suggest?
What is "holier" than the Law?

Anyone's holy book is holier than the law. Even the ones I don't believe in.

Because I will refuse to say that someone worthy and respectable believes in a wrong religion and I'd never place fallible laws made by man on the level of another's religion

The thing is that, for a Democrat in a red state, she's immensely popular, especially in her old US District 9, which is where I live.

You're talking, of course, about the US Constitution.

Don't let your pals on the right, or Dear Lord, in the South, hear you dissing the Constitution like that.

However, her job is to represent her constituents, and no matter if you think your religion is above the law, in this case, for a Senator, the law IS her Bible, and she no doubt knows it better than you. It's about time that a politician shows us up front that her decisions will be made in accordance with the law and not someone's opinion.
