I am weighing the possibility of carefully avoiding absolutely all news for a whole year - for the first time in my adult life - as a kind of new year's resolution/experiment for 2018.

So, no television, no radio, no surfing internet news sites, news apps and news related podcasts deleted from my phone, no visits to any forums or message boards or web sites where news stories are discussed, avoid places that have gadgets, appliances and screens displaying news information, and I'd ask friends I socialize with to leave me out ofn their ruminations on current affairs.

I'd mean to put myself into a strict quarantine for 12 months.

Could it be done in the context of the life you lead?

What might be the repercussions for me - both positive and negative - of doing this?

Not a day will pass without someone saying
"Have you seen what that idiot Trump has done now?"

I have enjoyed 2017 very much - in a kind of permanently aghast and increasingly unshockable way - for this very reason.

I was thinking of diverting the need to consume info and narratives into reading more books instead.

It's the same as you can't avoid reading quote from someone you had blocked.
People you meet on daily basis will keep you informed even unintentionally.
You will hear neighbor's radio or TV, or others' conversation, and willingly or not, you'll learn about WW 3 that started... Or about newest arrs of sister Cardashian

All you need is a bit of the old menopause magic.
You retain nothing for longer than 15 minutes.
