I'm sure I saw some kind of competitive battlebot show on TV in the USA, but that might have been 15 or 20 years ago.

It was cancelled after only 3 years, axed by the BBC.

You should read links when given to you!
(Especially from reputable sources like myself.)

Robot Wars was VERY successful.
Excluding repeats and compilations it was screened by the BBC for 5 years
then aired by Channel 5 before being taken off the screens for a while.

It was revived by the BBC and aired again from July 2016 to Jan 2018.

All in all there were 10 full series, 2 extreme series and 21 Special shows.

BattleBots is an offshoot of the original American version of Robot Wars.
