Someone suggested that an interesting forum topic would be how we
arrived at our names on the site. Vaknso and Maggoteer's are just
two examples of ones that make more sense now that I know about
them. Sirfartsalot.......well I get the picture, I think. OK, me first.
Kirksey is my middle name, but I've always gone by Kirk. 957 is the
month and yr I was born (Sept, 1957). Sorry, not as interesting as
Maggoteer. Kirk

It was me kirk...Becky was actually the one that figured out John's
nick.

Mine comes from my love for "f5" defenses...The "Schliemann"
defense is a defense in the Spanish (Ruy Lopez)...originated by
Jaenisch in 1847 and sometimes called after him (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6
3.Bb5 f5!?) many years later the defense was named after the
German lawyer Adolf karl Wilhelm Schliemann (1817-1872)...although
actually the line he practisced in the 1860's was a variation of the
Cordel defense.

It is among one of my many f5 defenses...suchas mentioned the
Cordel...the Philidor Countergambit (PCG or Mestel variation) the
Balogh defense and of coursethe Dutch.

Plus...I was asked one time by a girl if I would show her my
Schliemann at a tourney...so I have kept it as a nick ever
since...hehehehe

no, wait, it's just my real name.

But I am player number 19, and at least 10 of those before me are Chris or Russ
and therefore deserve not to be mocked for an unimaginative name.

Perhaps I should start a sig....

Tom.

Tom that is too cool! To have been here since the beginning is
something I can't boast...I am in the 4000's but is still pretty low
considering we have people here now in the 20,000's.

Thanks for being one of the mainstays and one of the nicest people
on this site.

Hey!
Now don't you go offering lessons to Tom. I'd hate to have to stop
playing him. Man can't turn around here without running into this sort
of unnatural chess learnin.
Grin grin.

Mine is my user-name at pretty much every website I go to-- it is
inspired by the fact that I write horror fiction. "Tenebrous" is a Latin-
derived word for "shadowy"-- so I invented the verb form "tenebrate,"
meaning "to make darker." Then just changed the spelling to make it
even more obscure and pretentious😉

I was aiming for shogi, the Japanese version of chess, but somehow
stuck an extra "u" in there (live in Japan and you'll understand how
that can happen)

I lived in Japan for two years during the Navy. Very easy to do
something like that. :-)

Good one Paul!....chess and beer don't mix so they tell me...but I
have spent more time in the bar at tourneys drinking and discussing
with GM's than I did on my games!

Little tip for all of ya...by a guy a beer...and he will sit and analyse
positions for awhile! Lord knows I spent $40 just on GM Simarin at the
NY Open to go through some games with me...that guy can drink!

And needless to say...I have had many people yell at me and say
Dave...come look at this and give me your assesment...and
waitress...get Dave a beer.

And I am the first person to sit down and go through a game...or show
one of mine for a simple bottle of Bud..hehehe
