This is a rather wonderful American term which has no equivalent in English. Although the etymology is such, that it is originally from the English term, saucy, meaning one who was impertinent or impudent, it has also some sexual connotations, similar to the term dishhy! Robert Burns in his poems speaks of the Scots equivalent, of a 'sauncy young women', meaning one who is spirited and evocative. Through its bastardisation, these connotations have been removed and thus we find it in its present form, sassy, one who challenges in a rather direct manner duly appointed authority. One must thank our American friends, for they have a knack of distilling the essence of a term and preserving its in a way that is readily accessible. Can anyone else think of similar terms that our American cousins have taken and made their very own, thanks in advance for taking the time, robbie.

about the OP, nobody here is interested in languages. I could've posted about a similar japanese word I was looking at just yesterday, which would've been interesting to me, but it would've been completely ignored. because nobody cares.
