@divegeester saidThe most poisonous poster on the website, to my way of thinking, probably draws malignant energy from being reviled and would want to continue. She would simply need to nurse one 21/28 day game against nobody in particular according to 'the ogb rule'. It would create no benefit for the community.
It would keep some of the most poisonous trolls out.

@fmf saidMaybe just be a subscriber then?

I wonder which posters we would lose if that was the case.
@ogb said1. Take it to Site Ideas, Spanky.
that to participate in the forums, a person should be playing at least one game. or finished a game within the last few days, not thousands of days since the last move.
2. Been discussed before and dismissed, more than once. Bad idea. If implemented, would not improve forum etiquette in the slightest. Wouldn't improve anyone's chess game in the slightest either.
@ogb saidYou know that is a tough one! We do have some members on here who did use to be paying subscribers and played a lot of chess, just don't do so anymore. ( Would that be fair to them?)

We do have the alert posts feature with take care of unwanted posts or posters. That I believe would be the way to go.
So if you have a problem with someone who is posting things that are against the TOS just alert it. Eventually the poster doing this learn they can't do it.
Seems like a pretty simple solution to me.
I have had posts removed myself, in the heat of the moment one can go over the line. I've even requested posts I made be removed.

@divegeester saidIn my various guises on RHP over many years I have subscribed played tournaments , had over 100 games on was rated 1600 then my internet went down 3 weeks of carnage skulls lobbed everywhere so when the Tinternet was fixed my love of the game evaporated, possibly burn out so now I am happy with a couple of games at a time, If i get a chess revival I might rejoin but my true love now is horse racing and i spend more time studying form than chess moves.

@badradger saidI don't believe you'd be the poster being talked about in the OP statement.

@divegeester saidI used to be. I’m not sure I participate here enough to make it worth my $ or while. There are people I interact with here whom I consider friends but I interact with them elsewhere.

If it’s put to a vote, or if my opinion counts, I vote against limiting forum participation to only chess players or subscribers.
@hakima saidAs was pointed out to me by a new poster well he has been around for around 5 years or so now. Some people look at the forums and judge from them rather they want to be on the site. I had never thought of that before. If that is there only reason for joining then they are missing what great Chess site it is, even without forums! He did make a good point however!
