What do you think is the percepion by others of the people in YOUR country.
British Stereotype
There are basically 2
1. The stiff upper lipped, briefcase carrying city gent.
2. The happy-go-lucky, cheeky cockney (like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins).
.....and the French (amongst others) think us arrogant
Originally posted by ianpickeringI'd say that's more of an English stereotype. There are Scottish stereotypes as well (hardly anyone seems to have heard of the Welsh outside Britain), but many foreigners are confused by the words 'British' and 'English': Americans often use 'British' and think it excludes the Scots, while in many European countries Britain and all its inhabitants are referred to as 'England' and 'the English'.

The English football hooligan and his cousin, the badly-behaved tourist who goes on holiday to get sunburn and to drink huge amounts of cheap booze, have become increasingly infamous in Europe at least, so that is the impression many Europeans have of British people.
Another English stereotype (particularly among people who pretend their countries are free of class snobbery) is of the aristocrat who is exasperated at meeting 'the wrong sort of people'.
In America, the British are also said to have poor dental health.

Any Australians want to say how they think others see them?
How about our American friends?
All Oz women are extremely hot and run around topless on Bondi beach. Nicole kidman gave this one a nice little push.
All Oz men are tough and rugged- either huge Rugby players or rugged outdoorsmen. Variuos Australian actors have helped this one along.
And of course, all australians are known for being very friendly, beer drinking, Rugby fans.
I grew up in the US and have visited there several times. I have to admit that atleast some of the stereo-types hold some truth. I think Australians are some of the friendliest people I've ever met. From what I saw, the average women did seem to be at a higher standard than most other countries (but could have just been the places I went to). And I did wander into a pub during a Football game- big mistake.
I'd have to say the the stereo-types are created by very minor differences in our societies, but overall Oz and the US were very similar. Never did figure why you guys put beets on your hamburgers though....

I love how they chase down snakes and crocodiles and such and grab 'em with their bare hands, mates.
Well, it's better than being known for strange humor, bad teeth and being stuck up. 😛
