Maybe. Then, again, his profile doesn't suggest that this thread is motivated by a need for conversation or attention:

Smiffy's a focused man with a love for chess and dedication to his clubs and clans. He posts out of necessity, which suggests resourcefulness in meeting public challenges privately. To approach total strangers for the purpose of asking for financial assistance must have taken considerable need and humility. He offers unlimited games and friendship (for a year) and implied gratitude in return. We have no way of knowing, with certainty, whether "embarrassment is what's involved here". We may, however, surmise this thread represents an appeal of last resort. Seems to me that he deserve to be given the benefit of doubt; treated with respect and dignity, rather than as the impersonal butt of detached humor.
