Even though I cock up a few games in these Hardcores I still manage (with my opponents help)
to put a few good moves together. This one was fun. I tried a piece sac idea but it was fizzling
out and my activity was just for show. I had to take my piece back and then it's dead level.
Then came his 22...f6 which although I did not know it at the time, was a key blunder.
It saves a pawns but stops Nf6 and Rh6 two defensive moves which would have
prevented me from out numbering the defenders with attackers. (see the game)
I could see I was getting a stonking attack and it was just a few moves later I realised
my opponents position must be lost so looked for a cute shots. (I was so much into this
game I messed up a couple of other games - never mind.) I finally got to play one
and only hit on it after first looking at a more mundane win.
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 exd4 4. Qxd4 {More fun than 4...Nxd4 or 4...Bc4} 4... Nc6 {4...a6 to stop 5.Bb5 is annoying. Then I have to think about my next 6 moves.} 5. Bb5 Bd7 6. Bxc6 Bxc6 7. Nc3 Nf6 8. Bg5 Be7 9. O-O-O {A position I've had dozens of times. Won most, lost a few.} 9... h6 {Usually here I play Bh4 and after 0-0 4-g5 etc to open up the King.} 10. h4 {But today I thought I'd try this one} 10... hxg5 11. hxg5 {11...Rxh1 12.Rxh1 creates all kinds of fun positions.} 11... Nh5 12. g4 {And I get my piece back. Actually this Knight stays there for the rest of the game,} 12... Bxg5+ 13. Kb1 Bf6 14. Qe3 {with e4-e5 idea but mainly to hit the a7 pawn to prevent 0-0-0} 14... Bxc3 {I did not want him to play that. 15.bxc3 or 15.Qxc3. I went for....} 15. Qxc3 {I now expected 15...Qf6 next. Probably a draw.} 15... Bxe4 {I did not think this move was possible.} 16. Rde1 d5 17. Nd2 {I am now expecting to take twice on e4 and stop him castling.} 17... Qd7 18. Nxe4 O-O-O {Again I was wrong, I thought I had this move...} 19. Nc5 {...but it does not win a piece.} 19... Qxg4 {Two pawns down need to get something going.} 20. Qa5 Kb8 21. Re7 {That will get a pawn back and hopefully he might play Rc8.} 21... Qc8 {Damn! 21...Rc8 22.Qb5 wins.22...b6 23.Nd7+} 22. a3 {Luft before I walk into back rank tricks.} 22... f6 {This saves the pawn but it stops Rh6 defending ideas and Nf6.} 23. Rh3 {I grab the chance to bring this boy into the game. 23...Qxh3 24.Qxc7+ and mate.} 23... b6 {This will be forced in a move or two. It's not looking good for Black.} 24. Na6+ {24...Kb7 25.Qa4 with Rxc7+ next} 24... Ka8 25. Qa4 {Threatening 26.Qc6+ and hiding a lovely wee trick.} 25... b5 {Damn! I was wanting 25...c6 or c5 when 26 Nb8 is a cute move.} 26. Qxb5 c6 27. Qa5 {27...Qxh3 28.Rxa7+ Kxa7 29. Nc5+ and mates would have been nice..} 27... Rd7 {I was threatening Nc7+} 28. Rxd7 Qxd7 {Plan A. 29.Nc7+ Kb8 30.Rb3+ Kc8 31 Na6 1-0. This planted the seed for plan B..} 29. Rb3 {Cutting off the flight squares and putting plan b into action.} 29... Rc8 {I still get a chance for a neat win.} 30. Qb4 {Black cannot stop the mate threat on b7 or b8.} 30... d4 {There nothing to be done. Black just needed to see it.} 31. Qb8+ {31...Rxb8 32.Rxb8 a Hook Mate which I looked for after Plan A.}
