But in one of my games I'm about to reveal checkmate, something I haven't done for ages and I'm hoping for another small thrill.

For me its when my opponent makes a move that I wasn't expecting... or when 2 pawns up slowly turns into a queen... or fighting in a position that seems equal until suddenly the landscape turns deadly.
