@TARBCS
Bd2+ is the human way. Clean cut and obvious.
f5 still wins and further down the line, possibly 15-20 moves from now it's evaluation
will be higher than what it saw playing Bd2+. Even if it is a fraction of point
higher it will always play the highest evaluation.
These top drawer machines are so strong they are close to being useless for the
home and casual player. Sometimes GM's cannot see what they are 'thinking' about.
Recently I was watching a Nakamura vid and his computer suggested a move that
puzzled him. He said he just ignores computer suggestions if they look nonhuman.
Leko when commentating on the world final said at one point after the computer
suggested a move; "I think we can all ignore that, it is playing a different game to
one we are watching."
They are going to incredible depths these day, way beyond human capability
and tactically they are unbeatable because of what they can see.
Can you see the variation from here where Stockfish sees a mate in six
by saccing both Rooks and a Queen. Most humans would worry about
the threat of Qg4+ picking up the h5 Rook. These things see all kinds
of wonderful and fantastic variations. They skip though millions of them
sometimes we get a glimpse of what masterpieces they are hiding.
An unheard melody variation.
@greenpawn34 saidThe problem and reason Stockfish 17's play move is Stupid is because it is 9 moves less efficient than the Best correct (Human!) move 🙂

Stockfish cannot find the correct move no matter how long it thinks for!???
The game .pgn.s I posted are played at 10 minutes each per move. 🙂
HI, TARBCS
I'm not defending Stockfish, far from it. Possibly at such a short time control it
cuts it's branch when what was played had the highest ratio. It might have
wee glitch in it somewhere but I'm sure all these were ironed out years ago.
It's not like the old days when positions were going around that really did make
computers look silly. I recall this position (because it is easy to remember)
It is a mate in three composed by Sam Loyd (1841-1911)
You have to put them 'look for the mate mode' till they got it.
The only move that mates in three is 1.Re2!
These positions were often accompanied with human v human games where a player
set a deep but flawed trap and won. In the same positions the computers lost
because it would not set the trap. It was flawed and even though the refutation
was difficult and nigh impossible for a human to see OTB but easy for a computer
to refute, the computer would not go near it, instead it would batten down and
just accept it was lost.
They are great at finding brilliant moves, but they cannot hack. They have no 'hope
or play for a blunder' routine. 🙂
@greenpawn34 saidIf you are talking about my position above where Stockfish 17 plays f5 ???

I
Then it was not played at such a short time control! the example games were played at 10 minutes each per move!
Not only that as I said Stockfish 17 does not want to play the best correct move Bd2 !!! ever! leave it as long as you want thinking about what to play?
