    Crawfishing.

I'm going to say it is when a chess player castles queenside.

Someone will appear and say that is wrong and an argument will develop.

The argument will not go my way so I will back off without admitting I'm wrong.
That is my understanding of 'crawfishing.'

A Crawfish goes backwards when confronted with danger or something it does not like.

Nothing except when the two clash again (and they will.)

Then we can all be entertained with pages of good old fashioned
codswallop (another fishy term) with the two posters casting up
old posts sometimes from different forums.

Been a while since we had one here, the Holy Joe page is
the best place to visit for that. The Creationists v Anti Creationists
is a never ending round of squabbling..

Think I'll pop down there and rattle a cage or two and crawfish my way out.

The following is from an RHP player's profile is this consistent with your understanding of "crawfishing"?

actual crawfish incidents committed by me- 30 ish
Harshes comment - "grow up and play. Quit this nonsense"
Most common comment - "Am I getting crawfished?"
Funniest comment - "Been fishing lately? Bass love crawfish, ha ha! Meet Mr. Bass!"
Most important consideration for me before crawfishing - clan points loss kicks a position on the front page.

You have to be wary l of Bio's.

Non-sibs are not allowed a Bio's so Russ and his chums sit down and make them up.

OK, I'll bite, but only to prove GP's point that there'll be an argument.

verb [ intrans. ] informal, retreat from a position; example: "the three networks, intimidated by the public outcry, had begun to crawfish."

Not specific to chess, although there is a use of "crawfishing" in the following article about Kramnick:

I think GP nailed it, in a manner of speaking.

Here's a definition from an online dictionary:
