My Nephew is a Clown

My local newspaper always has a very simple mate in two.

My Nephew (the Clown) cut out the diagram and then cut up the diagram
along the ranks (not the files, the ranks) and glued them back together
putting the ranks in the wrong places.

So I saw this.



He told me the rank with the Rook on h6 is in the right place.

You have to re-aarange the ranks so it's White to play and mate in 2.

To make it clear what I mean, the Bishop will either end up
on a1,a3,a5 or a7 with no other unit on that rank.

So on the h file the rook on h6 and the pawn on h2 could be swapped? Or the white king could be on h8?

My understanding is that yes, the rook and pawn could be swopped. The white king, however, is on a white square. He will end up on h1, h3, h5 or h7. Not on H8, cos that's a black square.

So all the pieces have to stay on their present color but somewhere else up or down the same file?

Imagine the chess board has been cut up into strips along the ranks.

Put them back in place like a big jig-saw so when it is finished
you have a mate in two. An easy mate in two.

I'll give another clue. The Rook is on h6 and the White King is on h3.
