No big deal, right?
It's even more bizarre than that. Further digs have shown the first one was made, and intentionally buried, then a newer one built up the hill where the original was built.
Then THAT was buried deliberately and so forth, with smaller and smaller ones up to one found on top of the hill, a pathetic looking version of the one at the bottom, thousands of years younger but maybe one tenth the size and crude compared to the original.
It seems the original was the model but subsequent generations got a bit worse at being able to reproduce the massiveness of the original and so built smaller and smaller ones but always buried and we may never know why ANY of that happened, not much to date, not much in the way of tools, campfires, not much of anything of the accoutrements of civilization which means the actual town or whatever you would call the place they lived was not nearby which only adds to the mystery of just why such structures were built in the first place.
It looks to me like there was an original genius who designed and supervised the building of the original but of course subsequent generations would not have his expertise and relied on memory passed down from one generation to the next but like the old twice told tale where something is repeated, each time it gets a bit less accurate till the first tale was about say, a donkey carrying wood and ends up being a story about a parakeet with a backpack.....
