What I am personally hoping for is, whether from this source or some other, a new nonaddictive relatively-safe painkiller being developed that completely removes even the most agonizing pain but with few and trivial side effects and without causing drowsiness or unconsciousness.
This would be particularly beneficial to terminally ill patients to make sure that their final days are not in agony. Sadly, I personally knew of several people that really needed such a drag including two close relatives that died really painfully because of the unacceptable limitations of existing painkillers.
But wouldn't it be really nice if it was also OK to take it ~20 mins before having injections or before going to the dentist so you could be certain you won't find that a painful experience? I definitely would want that.
