In the market for new Irons.

Anyone have a preference between the Callaway X-20's versus the Nike SQ Sumo's??

I personally prefer Tommy Armour 845's myself, which is what I play

In my opinion you should spend the money getting your current irons customised to your swing rather than new irons.

Depends on what irons he's got at the moment, eh?

Fair point, I kept bettering my clubs but with little improvement. I then had my latest set customised and knocked 3 off the handicap within 2 weeks then over the next couple of months a further 4

3 off your HC in 2 weeks? 😕

How much golf do you play? Or did you start playing with gardening tools?

Prior to my accident I played 7 holes every morning and 18 Sat, 18 Sunday.
I was mediocre/poor until I had them customised. Unfortunately I have been unable to play since Dec 06 but with a final op in a few weeks that should all change 😉

not worth it. Spent 200 bux on cheapos for a full set 5 years ago. They are worn out, grips shot to hell, club faces pock marked....missing the 6 iron.

Hell, they are only McGregor's..no sense in keeping those POS's.

I recently bought a Taylor Made Driver and Calloway sand wedge so the irons are the next thing.

I've been reading a bit about the new Callaway X-22's too but the X-20's are more in my price range. About $600 (Canadian) brand new right now.

Fair enough, I wrongly assumed that you were upgrading from a decent set of irons.

Give me a shovel and rake 😉

Honestly, I think I could do well on the PGA tour with a baseball bat. I have excellent control of hitting 😛

how much difference to your average golfer will customised really make? I'm average height and average handicap....say about a +15.

Down to consistency of swing but loft & lie can be many a persons downfall, probably not for very low handicappers and yet all pro's have customised. My course is an undulating course so by customising, my club will now always come down on the correct path so that the sole of the club is pararell to the ground. I also found that even if the loft is correct at purchase it changes over time. You think you have 4% between clubs but some have altered over time to give results like

club 44% now 45%
Club 40% now 39%

You now have 6% between these clubs instead of 4% so how can you play consistent when you are over/under hitting getting too much/little loft from a club.
You will get golfers that think the latest cub is best but my view is better to have the right club. Besides the man that alters your clubs also fits new grips to fit your hand, a lot of folk have the wrong grips on their clubs.

You're allowed to use 7 hole 'rounds' for your handicap index? Weird.

Typical ass response. Our club house starts at 1 and 7th brings yo back before going onto the rest. I simply have time to play 7 on week days whereas had you the ability to read the rest then you would have observed that there were 18 holes on Saturdays & 18 on Sundays :p
What more could one expect from a mod 🙄🙄🙄

I saw that. Relax buddy 😕
I'm just trying to figure out how much better you apparently played after your iron customization...

It means you played 4 qualifying rounds in the 2 weeks you dropped 3 on your HC.
How do your calculations work there? We use the 10 best of the last 20 rounds. Here in SA it means you shaved off about 7-8 shots per round!

That's a BIG improvement.
