Typical England, really. They'll probably now play much better against India, and narrowly lose.

Yeah, so do many other people, including many from Holland itself. But it's wrong, and it rankles, because Holland can be a little rapacious when it comes to resources in the rest of the country, and less then generous when it comes to paying back the debt. Compare the difference between England, Scotland and the UK, consider that England at least has the excuse of being the larger (and most populous) part of the UK, and be grateful we in the rest of the Netherlands don't carry claidheamh mors 😛

    De Oranje gaat goed hoor!

Not any more, but that was too close a run to do England's reputation any good. If only they'd manage to hold on with the grinding bowling for two more overs...

Ten Doeschate - Does that translate directly to 'showerholes'?

Hah, sounds like it, but no. It doesn't mean anything at all. I suspect it may originally have been a place name.

But surely you of all people should know - he's one of your own guys! In fact, this was a match between the Sarf African second and third XI - the Grauniad did the maths and concluded that there were 8 of your guys in the game, against only 7 Englishmen, 4 Dutchmen and 3 "others".

So - Suid-Afrika's first XI for the win, then?

Eh? Pietersen and Trott are South Africans. Strauss was born here, I believe? Where do you get 4?

I could hear Ten Doeschate was South African when he was interviewed in the innings break.

I'm still pissed I never went for trials a decade ago. The Dutch cricket association was looking hard for foreign based players then, but because I wasn't playing professionally they (obviously) didn't want to foot any of the bills and I wasn't sure I wanted to make cricket my job, so I just went to London for a while instead. I could have been there and been the difference today! 😉

Matt Prior was born there as well. Moved to the UK when he was 11, and has one English parent.

Seems we only get the aussie matches over here on the local tv broadcasters.😛
Seems stupid. I'd love to see some other teams playing eachother .

Its on at like midinght , when there is nothing on tv anyway. Why not put a few other world cup matches on here and there since it is on so late at night ? Oh yeah, thats right. They have to make their money with their late night infomercials 😛 😛

I dunno, ask the Grauniad's editors. They counted them, I was only quoting them. Possibly they were quoting someone else, too.

Some big games coming up this weekend!

The Windies had absolutely nothing, except Bravo (the Lara clone) to stop the South African machine.
Weird seeing a SA side with 5 spinners in! Still, I really want the selectors to put in Van Wyk, a full-time keeper and explosive opening batsman, in instead of Petersen. What our best fielder is doing behind the stumps is still stumping the fans... Especially if we are to play so many spinners - then you need a specialist keeping.

NZ are limping to the gate against the ozzies. I haven't seen enough of the black caps these past few years to know the current squad well enough, but they seem to be really struggling with the top order full of big hitters who can't seem to hang around and a bowling attack with almost no sting. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka
SL by 30 runs or 3 wickets

    India vs. England
India by 45 runs or 4 wickets

    Hell, what a game.

Horrible fielding, seriously ordinary bowling and bad decision making in batting.
The Indians look like they were just going through the motions after Sachin got them to a good score. Newsflash guys: 300+ isn't an automatic win anymore... The middle order then had a brain fart, as they were looking good 355-365 runs.
England were on fire with Strauss leading from the front and cruising to victory before they all got a bout of nerves and threw it away.

A limp draw being an accurate result to the game.

Tie, not draw. You can't have a draw in 50-over cricket.

And as for quality, yeah, both sides made mistakes, and some big ones. But hey, they still both got to 338, which is a decent score by any standard, and it was exiting. So I'm not complaining.

No, I'll complain about our boys' performance against the Windies. That was limp. Especially after giving the Limeys such a scare.

Edit: I don't think your guys are going to have much trouble with'em, tomorrow...

    LOL @ English "cricket".

Bumble said it best at the end of the game as he was commentating: "The ICC says the associate members shouldn't be at the world cup? The Irish just said 'Up yours' to that."

Whatever buddy. Tie, draw - It was a horrible game, cliffhanger ending notwithstanding.

The Indians should have made 380 against that bowling and fielding display and then the English threw it away after heroics from Strauss against a very limp bowing and fielding effort from the Indians.

Don't let the noise the crowd made fool you, it was a crap game.
