This is an excerpt from the recent compromised rules (GAA and Ozzie Rules) series between Ireland and Australia...

Amazingly, only 1 person ended up in hospital and I don't think that tackle was even featured in this clip.

Look at all those complaints in the comments! Some of those high tackles were more than a little silly, but there's nothing wrong with a bit of rough and tumble. 'Tis a shame there was nobody on the Irish team with some kickboxing experience.

Here's an incident from the Australia Vs Great Britain test (rugby league) played last Saturday: http://youtube.com/watch?v=yMuvZNH5VAo. The whingy Poms actually charged Mason with striking after the game (he was only given a warning on the field). This isn't soccer, for crying out loud.

Of course it was striking, but it was a fair punch (or as fair as a punch can get, anyway). In addition, the English player had Mason by the shirt, and was in the process of raising his own fist. What a girl's blouse!

It reminds me of this incident from a night out a few weeks back: http://www.myfoto.com.au/Photo/jeffcotter/Dylan's_Album/iraniraqwar.jpg.

You wouldn't be...whinging...here, would you? No, Aussies never do that. Especially when they lose.

Why didn't you mention what happened before that incident? I watched it in a pub, and everybody in the pub winced and ooooed when Mason nearly killed a fella about 10 seconds after he had released the ball.

And why didn't you mention what happened after the incident? YouTube 😀

Ah Rag, that's a bloody disgrace.

They need to change something there. If they actually want a football match (which I think they should, as it works pretty well in some respects), then one of a few things needs to happen.

    1) Rules need to be changed and enforced. I remember one match a few years ago, the Gooch was scoring all our points ( a skinny fellow, very skilled footballer from Kerry) SO SOME HUGE MINDLESS MORON JUST WENT OVER AND DECKED HIM in front of the ref. (Sorry, caps slipped). REf sends him off...

and according to the rules, you can sub on another player for one who has a red card, making it meaningless, and geared towards this style of 'game'.

or 2) our lads quit faqing about and go professional. They'd be on a par with the aussies physically, then. An amateur can not compete in a physical game with a pro. It just doesn't work on any level.

or 3) make GAA more physical, including in it a tackle alla rugby, and possible the mark. However, this would compromise the running in the game.

or 4) forget the sport and sportsmanship. Pick a team of convicts released for the match, streetfighters, and watch 30 idiots killing each other for 70 minutes or what have you. But in this case, forget the sport, and the international sportsmanship which this event was supposed to represent.

A few years ago we had beaten the aussies badly for several years running, and the were talking about knocking it on the head as there was no competition. Now we see this nonsense every year. It's a joke.

The late tackle occurred after the fight, didn't it? I haven't seen it (I was working) but if it is nasty then a game or two ban would be warranted. But dirty play elsewhere on the field doesn't change the fact that there was nothing ban worthy in this incident. Fighting's part of the game.

As for "MASON GET[TING] SLAPPED": I don't like Mason, and if he had been knocked out right afterwards I would have had a laugh, but I have to say it looks far more like he slipped over than received any sort of heavy blow.

    Here's the entire incident: YouTube
