If Lampard went up for sale, every big club in the world would consider him.
His work rate for England is immense, his control in tight situtions immense, his attitude awesome. Can pass at pace, his shooting ability brilliant.
He has to play a holding role for England that makes Gerrard look good.
If Lampard came up for sale neither of the other 3 big clubs in England would be interested. Barcelona recently issued a statement saying that they weren't interested either. Using the following words
"We have got players like Deco, Xavi and Iniesta who have similar characteristics as well as amazing control of the ball. At the moment we are really happy with our trio of midfielders. So as things stand there really isn't space for another player of this type."
How can you say his shooting ability is "brilliant"? He has one of the poorest %'s of shot on target in the Prem. At the WC last year he had more shots than anyone else in the tournament and didn't score once!
As for the holding role and "looking good" everyone knows it's Gerrard who has had to hold the CM when playing with Lampard, even moving to the right and left occasionally to accomodate him. Quite simply, Lampard is a luxury that Chelsea (with players like Essien and Makalele) can afford, and England (who have a better option in Gerrard) cannot.
