Since 1930, when the English invented the world cup in an ill-conceived effort to puff up their sagging national pride, 19 teams have finished in the top three.

Of those 19 teams, 5 have only one top three finish in their history.

    Name those 5 countries.

None of the British teams entered the World Cup until 1950.

You seem to have a pathological interest in and dislike of the English- any reason why?

When I wrote the question I thought the answer was Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia.

West Germany might be a third.

Those are the ones with multiple top 3 finishes.

The teams with only one are:

    USA
    Croatia
    Turkey
    Austria
    England
