Van from South Africa did something nobody has ever done in the history of this event. In the 400 meter final, he won from the 8th lane, blind until after 300 meters, then ran away with it setting a World Record of 43.03, beating Michael Johnson's record that stood for over 17 years? Maybe more.
I think we may be looking at a human breaking 43 seconds for the 400m event, and I think this is the man to do it.
To do this from lane 8, there is no way to describe this unless you have run it yourself. You are all alone, you can only see your lane, and an empty track. Until the last turn when you finally see where you are. Nobody has ever won it from lane 8 in the history of this event. Beautiful to watch.
