What to do if an opponent fails to make his move at the end of a game when his position is lost (mate next or next to one move) and his timeout has expired but he still has 7 days of time bank remaining?

Wait until the time bank is zero.
Watch for the skull to appear to the right of the "my games" page for the game, and when it appears, click it.

Thank you for that. So I have to wait for the full 7 days before I can claim the points, do I? Nothing else I can do?

Yes, there is nothing else you can do.

You may actually gain an extra point or two from the wait, because your opponent has two wins coming up soon, which will boost his rating.

If you're in a hurry and don't care about the rating points or the win, you can resign.

You should always check the time controls you are getting involved with before you start a game. If they are not acceptable, just cancel the game before it starts and pick times you like.
