I believe I now understand...as long as I make a move before my vacation flag drops, I am ok. I am playing some 1 day games with 0 timebank, so when I make my move, I will get my 1 day when it is my next turn and the games that have timebanks will be somewhat depleted if not all depleted in which case I still have my 3 or 7 or 21 day window

Yes, you've grasped that precisely...making moves whilst on holiday will immediately alleviate any depleting timebank games...you'll also get your games allotted time back, after your opponent has returned the board...
