They came up with tests that could reveal which theory of gravity is more believable, Dark matter or MOND.
They are coming down on the MOND theory.
That would also explain why after decades of searching, no dark matter has been found.
MOND makes more precise predictions apparently according to this paper.
Isn't that what I have been saying all along?
If stars in a galaxy travel faster at the outer part of the galaxy than the inner part that violates the laws of conventional gravity. Either the speed of stars rotating in a galaxy were measured wrong or moND makes sense.
I am open to both possibilities.
@Metal-Brain
The velocity measurements are accurate, it is like the entire galaxy is riding on a giant plate. Their analysis suggests MOND is more correct than hidden mass but they have to prove it with something better than statistical analysis, there is clear evidence of the extra mass in the form of gravitational focusing too so we will see which theory comes out ahead in the coming decades, maybe Webb can shed new light on the subject or the ELT, the new one being built with a bunch of hexagonal mirrors like Webb but about 5 times bigger than Webb, equivalent to a mirror 130 FEET in diameter with atmosphere control also to eliminate the distortion of light coming through the atmosphere.
The only thing Webb is better at is getting to the IR bands our atmosphere largely blocks since it is a million miles from Earth.
@sonhouse saidDark matter is not enough to explain the rotation speed of stars around a galaxy assuming they were measured accurately. That is why moND has legs. The conventional laws of gravity cannot explain it. Stars at the edge of the galaxy should have a full rotation around the galaxy that is slower than the stars closer to the center. If that is not happening the laws of gravity are incomplete. Enter moND theories.

@sonhouse saidYou expect scientists to agree on everything?
@Metal-Brain
That is one problem, Theories plural.
