I understand it fine, it calls for sacrifice 'without thinking' or some mysterious un-named bogeyman type bad karma thing is going to happen to you.
(...at least the god botherers give it some form and call it hell)
News for Shavmiester:
Good things happen to bad people.
Bad things happen to good people.
and vice versa
Sacrificing yourself in the hope that this will majically cease is futile.
Your opinion vs Taoism and Jesus Christ's opinion...
Yeah... see how the scales are weighed?

Is the "not thinking" part as strong for him as the "not giving" part is for you?
Do you know the measure of benevolence? It can only ever be voluntary, countries with large forced welfare states are the opposite of benevolent, the ability for people to act out of true care for their fellow man is reduced by the force of guvamint. The welfare state is an indication of an uncaring society, an uncaring society which it advances and nurtures increasing the need for more welfare, decreasing mans ability and will to engage in true benevolence and care for his fellows. A monster feeding itself.

That is how you would wish to operate an advanced society?

Not only are the rich a monster feeding itself, they drop their excrement on the rest of us.
it is interesting to read a book about the Bronte family in Yorkshire during the 19th Century. Their village (Haworth) was on a hill and because it lacked sewerage or drainage, all waste and excrement flowed downhill past or under or through the houses of the village. The rates of infectious disease and premature death were not only excessive but also the people understood very well that its cause lay in the lack of proper drainage. Trouble is, the only people who could pay for a drain were the wealthier residents, and they just happened by no chance at all to live relatively uphill. So they watched their neighbours die rather than contribute the cost, knowing very well that their own excrement was causing the problem.
Yes, the Bronte sisters wrote interesting novels, but their own short lives were a ferocious comment on the age of laissez faire ideology.
