The Point is: A thread is dead after it has been closed. Otherwise you can still post and revive the thread.
So the threads are counted after they ahve been closed. And the results are always about 60 days off the month in which they are posted.
Threads are not often closed at all on other forum websites, either, and so forum convention on the internet has usually been that a thread is considered dead after thirty days after the last post and it is extremely bad form to continually revive these threads which are over 30 days old and considered dead. Nothing actually prevents people from posting on these dead threads, except people calling them out on it (see "necro-posting" ) when they do. People who make a habit of doing this are often warned by moderators that such "necro-posting" is not generally allowed, and should be avoided as a matter of internet protocol and politeness.
