Current holder of the OLDEST long thread title is IceCold with "Sticky Thread Game". 16295 posts since 29 July 2009.

When I went looking for forum thread ideas on 1 February 2014, I never imagined that the choice I made would one day outdo that thread. "Last Word Sentences" has had 22974 posts in a shorter period of time.

The factor common to both threads seems to be the requirement to simply use one's own grey matter. "Sticky" only required some form of the word "stick" to appear in the post. "Sentences" is more of a challenge, requiring a coherent sentence made using a given set of letters. Neither requires any personal revelation from the poster and neither can cause a poster to become a target.

Nobody reads these threads, but everyone goes to them simply so that they can enjoy having a post and being creative. Are there any other reasons?

I like "creative" threads. I also like light-hearted threads that invite creative riffing, satire, and world-weary / forum-weary wistful irony.

Keeping a thread going "just because" shows lack of creativity and original thought.

Kinda like pet owners who have their dead pets taxidermied.

    It's creepy.

Whatever it is it should be anonymous and presented by a non subscriber’s second or third account.

I don’t think that was a requirement of the thread, it was more about keeping the thread top of the page (sticky) by simply posting in it.

I think you're right. Some poster thought of it and others followed. Some posters would find it on page 2 and use that fact in their posts.

Remember the Word Association threads? I didn't really get hooked on those, they seemed just too easy to be durable.
