You can stew tomatoes, prunes etc, but that isn't stew.
I love beef stew, carrots, potatoes, fresh or frozen peas, canned greenbeans ( fresh are out of season. Frozen are rubbery) corn etc in a gravy

Sounds great. A stew, is that what we also call a casserole?
In the USA a casserole is about any food baked in a casserole dish. Stew is usually like a soup with gravy instead of broth. Then there's other types of stew. Pinto beans, salt pork and canned tomatoes is pinto bean and pork stew.
By contrast, miso soup is a very thin soup. Somewhat of an acquired taste. Ubiquitous in Japan. Must have had it 2,000+ times when I lived there. But it's not a stew. So, this is off-topic. Soups, though. Don't get me started.
