Andreas Dückstein is an Austrian chess Grandmaster (GM) who was born on July 2, 1927, in Budapest, Hungary. He moved to Austria in 1953 and won the nation's chess championship four times between 1953 and 1965.
Dückstein played for Austria in the Chess Olympiad eight times, earning individual and team bronze medals. The International Chess Federation rewarded his performances by naming him an International Master in 1957 and a GM in 1986.
His most notable tournament victory came in 1962 when he won the East Berlin Tournament. Throughout his career, Dückstein defeated various high-profile opponents such as Fridrik Olafsson, Jan Hein Donner, Lajos Portisch, and Istvan Bilek.
