Aziz Mert Erdoğdu is a Turkish Grandmaster of chess. He was born on May 31, 1989 in Istanbul, Turkey. Throughout his career, Erdoğdu has claimed numerous titles and achieved significant recognition within the chess world, both nationally and internationally.
He first displayed his affinity for the game at a young age and won the Turkish Youth Chess Championship in his age category four times. He then proceeded to represent Turkey numerous times in the World Youth Chess Championships and the European Youth Chess Championships in various divisions.
In 2001, Erdoğdu was awarded the title of Candidate Master by FIDE (World Chess Federation). In just three years, he earned two more accolades—FIDE Master and International Master in 2003 and 2004, respectively. Finally, in 2011, Erdoğdu reached the peak of his chess career by acquiring the Grandmaster title— the highest title a chess player can attain— thereby making him one of the select few Turkish players to have achieved this honour.
Erdoğdu also played for the Turkish national team in four Chess Olympiads in 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2016. Apart from his personal career, he has been actively involved in promoting chess in Turkey and has authored two chess books, which have gained popularity among chess players and enthusiasts in the country.
