If the outcome is decided.
Whether it is football, American football, Baseball, Ice hockey .... etc ...

If a clan challenge is decided, lets get on to the next challenge.
Most clan leaders watch the game loads of their players and assign challenges accordingly.
At least the good ones do.
There is more to clan strategy than just what happens on the chessboard !!

In your example, your team still has a chance to win.
In regards to the chess, there is always ZERO chance of another outcome.

Explain to me what benefit is derived from "playing out the string"?

You can always enter tournaments for that.

Clan challenges have different goals.
For the record, I will offer my opponent a draw first.
That will minimize the rating swing.
In fact, if 2 players are equally matched, a draw results in a zero rating change.

If you answered yes, then why did you do it?
Until checkmate occurs, regardless of your material deficit, there is still a chance to win.
