The USA has a number of such services, including unemployment benefit (FDR's New Deal), the forestry service (Theodore Roosevelt gave this idea presidential sanction 1905), and so on --you just don't call them 'socialism', that's all. Leaving wilderness areas to be managed privately is a really bad idea; it inevitably leads to private persons being bought out by corporations, which then extract resources out of the land and leave behind an ecological ruin. The same applies to unemployment benefit: leaving people who lose their jobs to fend for themselves inevitably leads to massive social discontent and disorder; it is far better, and ultimately also cheaper, for universal taxation to fund retraining programs and get unemployed people back into the jobs market.

I will not elongate this response, except to say there is a creeping of socialism , the one which leads to communism. Why did you not write above that said monies will be used to pay off college loans? What in the. hell? Why, you casually leave that out, Moonbus..........................and 1000 other ill-conceived ideas of punishing the successful , making them pay for people who do not pull their weight. On another thread, Marauder wants MORE money from them when they already pay 50% of the taxes. People who make $500k or more pay 42.5% of our revenues in taxes, something like that.
