It's pretty clear then, from Zygalski's analysis, that the quality of play among RHP's finest far exceeds that of earlier GMs. We may need to revise our view of the ratings therefore. Merely 2400 isn't anywhere near a measure of their brilliance

Can it be said then that the only honourable exception in your list is grandmasteryoda?!

No. Most opponents only had 2 games vs BigKat in this list, which means that the matchup is not statistically significant (a descent player can achieve this). In addition, a few other players seem to play below the supposed threshold of this engine matchup. However, it is quite obvious that ~90% of the opponents are suspicious, and to sum this up: It is a shame.

OK, here's the second part of the post above:

This game has 44 moves; you analysed 35, so your database has only the first 9. However, the www.365chess.com database, for instance, contains 3 games after 14 moves. Actually, the game followed a book until around move 19-20 (I cannot confirm for sure as I don't have it any more). Could you do the analysis of my games, it would be interesting to check if this is just a one-of mistake, and not some kind of systematic failure?

I can find Galliamova-Danielian 2000 which deviated from your game on 12...Nc5
This only means a couple of extra moves were analysed for both players & certainly won't effect the over all match rate %'s significantly with 745 analysed moves.
So no, not a systematic failure as you rather dramatically put it.
Here is the ply-by-ply for that game.

So if you exclude the moves which I can find in Galliamova-Danielian, you end up with the following match rates for that game:

{ White: kes29 }
{ Top 1 Match: 27/32 ( 84.4% )
{ Top 2 Match: 29/32 ( 90.6% )
{ Top 3 Match: 29/32 ( 90.6% )
{ Top 4 Match: 30/32 ( 93.8% )

{ Black: TheBigKat }
{ Top 1 Match: 23/32 ( 71.9% )
{ Top 2 Match: 27/32 ( 84.4% )
{ Top 3 Match: 28/32 ( 87.5% )
{ Top 4 Match: 31/32 ( 96.9% )

Barely any difference, is there?

According to the http://www.365chess.com/ database, there are 3 games containing the position after Move 14 from the Game 9176861:
Krivoshey (2533) vs. Zambrana (2409) Las Palmas 2005
Leitao (2575) vs. Zambrana (2425) Santos 2006
Leitao (2598) vs. Llapasset (2131) Figueres 2006
(And as I mentioned an opening book contains even more).

I checked the other 19 analysed games with that database. Here is a brief summary (hopefully I haven't done too many mistakes):

# 5 games are OK
# 5 games have small mismatch (one or 1/2 of the move)
# 6 games - average (1.5 to 4 moves)
# 4 games - 5 or more moves (Game 10374688 is the worst in this regard with 7 move mismatch)
# Overall 43/41 move difference for white/black out of the 745/739 analysed moves

So ~5.5% of the analysed moves can actually be found in this free online database alone. Hopefully you are more diligent with other aspects of the model... (Although no doubt the rates would remain very high even after removing them from analysis).

Although you can find a few moves that were analysed that may be in a megabase (the Batch Analyzer database is automated) it doesn't really change the over all %'s much, as I showed in your game. That's why longer games are selected for analysis - a bigger sample size helps to smooth-out these problems.
Anyway, congratulations on your draw against the #1 player on this site in that incredibly accurate game 🙂

Well the program is called Batch Analyzer for a reason. This type of analysis is only useful for samples of 20+ games. You can't really learn much from a single game because there can be plenty of obvious/forcing moves which could skew the %s in a big way.

I don't understand why White resigned at the end.

Thanks for the analysis, nice to see my sacrifice was sound, even though the follow up was a little sloppy. I see now I missed 27. exf1=Q Rxf1 28. Qf2!! That would have been a great way to end the game!

I find it strange your engine preferred 29. e1=R+ over 29. e1=Q+. It even gave the two moves different evaluations 🙄.

He sent me this message at the end of the game.

"I think you have the edge on this one. I am cutting back on siege matches, so please have the other one on me as well. All the best - tappa"

43 out of 745 is more than a few, especially as you proclaimed that "All database moves were excluded from analysis".

As for my game vs. TheBigKat - it left an opening book at around move 20, however your analysis included moves 10 to 20 that were all marked as top choices except one or two marked as second choices. That's ~30% of the total analysed moves, is that really not significant? The remaining 24 moves included a few early piece exchanges, then the White King's journey to win the Black's queenside pawn (the only obvious way trying to win), then more or less forced responses to the Knight's moves in moves 33 - 38, and finally the the White King's moves to take the Black's kingside pawns - again the only obvious plan. But of course, all this analysis requires some work, it's so much easier to simply drop a random sarcastic congratulatory post.
