Arseny Alavkin is a Russian Chess Grandmaster (GM) and coach who began playing in the early 1990s and achieved his Grandmaster title in 2003. Throughout his career, he has won several major chess tournaments and represented Russia in international championships. Alavkin achieved notable performances in the Russian Chess Championship and the European Individual Chess Championship.
In addition to playing chess, Alavkin also served as a coach for both individual chess players and national chess teams. He has made significant contributions to the development of chess in Russia, particularly in the Siberian region where he was awarded a medal in 2017 for his extensive work.
Besides chess, Alavkin is a skilled lawyer. He was awarded a law degree from Novosibirsk State University in 2002.
Despite his achievements, Alavkin has faced accusations of cheating. During the Aeroflot Open rapid chess tournament in 2019, he was disqualified for having a phone during the game, despite his claims that the phone was turned off and out of reach.
