Carlos Daniel Albornoz Cabrera is a Cuban chess grandmaster. He was born on 29th June 1999 in Camagüey, Cuba. Albornoz Cabrera graduated from the Raúl Cepero Bonilla Sports Initiation (ESDI) school, an institution dedicated to fostering sporting talent within Cuba.
He became the junior chess champion of his province at just six years old. Throughout his youth, Albornoz Cabrera achieved several significant accomplishments in myriad chess championships, both on the national and international stage.
On the national level, he became the champion of the Cuban Chess Championship in 2019, cementing his status as a leading figure within Cuban chess. Internationally, Albornoz Cabrera won the Central America and Caribbean U-20 Championship and then earned the World U-18 Silver Medal in 2017. These substantial achievements allowed him to gain the esteemed title of grandmaster in 2018, making him the youngest Cuban player to achieve this honor.
Albornoz Cabrera has also been recognized for his academic accomplishments. He began studying Law at the University of Camagüey in 2019, demonstrating an exceptional balance of academic and athletic pursuits.
