Mesgen Amanov is a Turkmenistani-American chess player who received the title of International Master from FIDE in 2009. Amanov was born in Turkmenistan in 1986 and started playing chess when he was seven years old. He first achieved recognition in the chess world when he became the under-14 Asian Youth Chess Champion in 1999.

Amanov's talent continued to grow throughout his teenage years, particularly in rapid chess, which he managed to showcase by winning the national championships on multiple occasions. His first notable international success was when he won the Asian U16 Rapid Championship in 2001. He also emerged victorious at the 2002 Agzamov Memorial Tournament in Uzbekistan and subsequently earned his FIDE Master title.

In 2003, Amanov moved to the United States where he first played in the Samford Chess Fellowship. In 2004, he earned his International Master title. He went on to win the Illinois State Championship in 2005. Amanov has been consistently ranked among the top 100 players in the United States.

In addition to his accomplishments in competitive chess, Amanov is also involved in chess coaching. He founded the "Chess Education Partners" which is aimed at promoting chess among young people.

Amanov has also written on chess. He is the author of the book "The Manual of Chess Combinations", a book that provides instructional content for beginner and intermediate chess players. Amanov also co-authored "My Secrets in the Sicilian" alongside GM Dmitry Gurevich; the book discusses the ins and outs of the Sicilian Defence in chess strategy.

Today, Amanov continues to play competitively, teach chess, and contribute to the field through written works.
