Amin's interest in chess began at the age of 7. He won the Egyptian Junior Chess Championship in 2003. He subsequently went on to win the Arab Chess Championship in 2005 and became an International Master that same year. Two years later, he gained the Grandmaster title, becoming the youngest Grandmaster from Egypt.
Apart from his chess prowess, Bassem Amin is also a medical doctor. He earned his degree from the University of Alexandria.
Amin has played for Egypt in the Chess Olympiads from 2006 onwards. Notably, he participated in African Chess Championships where he has won the title multiple times. Despite his busy chess and professional medical career, he balances both fields, although he has expressed that he may devote more time to medicine in the future.
Amin's chess games are widely respected in his home country and around the world, and his achievements have led to his recognition as one of the most successful chess players in African history.
