Ulf Andersson is a Swedish chess Grandmaster, noted for his exceptional skill in endgame play and specifically in positional rather than tactical style of play. Born on 27th June 1951, he is considered one of Sweden's greatest chess players. He was awarded the International Master title in 1970 and became a Grandmaster in 1972.
Andersson's success in tournaments includes sharing first place at Dortmund and Cienfuegos in 1975, and outright first place at Buenos Aires 1976/7 and the inaugural tournament in Biel in 1977. He also led Sweden's team in nine Chess Olympiads, securing 15 team and individual medals, and helping the team to second place in 1980. He also represented Sweden three times in team world championships and four times in team European championships, earning a total of 12 medals.
Besides playing, Ulf Andersson has trained elite players like Peter Leko and has worked as a chess commentator.
