Valeriy Aveskulov is a Ukrainian chess grandmaster and chess author born in 1986. Aveskulov's competitive career began with victories in both national and international youth tournaments, including the Ukrainian Junior Chess Championship in 2003.
Achieving the status of International Master in 2005, he then quickly rose to grandmaster standing in 2007. In 2007, Aveskulov also won the Ukrainian National Chess Championship.
In 2012, Aveskulov relocated to Turkey. Despite this, he returned to represent Ukraine in the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul.
As an author, Aveskulov released the book "Attack with Black", which was published in 2012. The book provides a repertoire for the Black pieces against 1.d4, using the Benko Gambit and other related defences. The book was well-received in the chess world for its depth and thoroughness.
Aveskulov has also written columns for online chess websites and is credited with making significant contributions to the theory of the Benko Gambit, a chess opening.
