Alexei Barsov is a renowned chess grandmaster best known for representing both Russia and Uzbekistan in his career. Born on December 4, 1966 in the city of Omsk, Russia, he obtained his international master title in 1993, followed by his grandmaster title three years later in 1996.
In his competitive history, Barsov has represented his home country of Russia, before switching to Uzbekistan in 1996. Throughout his career, he played in nine Chess Olympiads, including six for Uzbekistans national team. His long list of achievements includes assisting the Uzbekistani team in securing a bronze medal at the Asian Team Chess Championship in 1999.
Barsov further participated in the FIDE World Chess Championships of 2000 and 2002, reaching the second round on both occasions. Also in 2002, he won in the Caledon Cup in Gaborone.
Apart from being a competitor, Barsov has stayed connected to chess through coaching as well. He worked as a coach in Botswana from 1999 to 2011 and also served as the national coach of Bangladesh from 2012 to 2013.
