Andrey Baryshpolets is a Ukrainian-born chess grandmaster who acquired the title in 2013. Born on November 19, 1991, Baryshpolets took up chess at a young age and won his first significant accolade at the age of 15, when he won the U-16 European Championship.
Baryshpolets' list of achievements includes winning the U-18 Ukrainian Championships in 2009, securing the 3rd place in the U-20 World Youth Championships, and winning the Ukrainian National Championships in 2010. Baryshpolets also won the Philadelphia International tournament in 2013.
He earned three Grandmaster norms within a year from international tournaments held in Dallas, Texas; Saint Louis, Missouri; and Budapest, Hungary. Baryshpolets completed his Ph.D. in Finance at Texas Tech University in 2020.
In 2016, Baryshpolets won the Southwest Open, one of Texas' oldest chess tournaments. His excellent performances in the tournament and other chess events within Texas and Louisiana earned him the honour of carrying the "Texas Player of the Year" title in 2016.
In 2017, he represented the United States in the Pro Chess League. Apart from his achievements as a player, Baryshpolets is also a recognized chess coach, who believes in instilling a comprehensive understanding of the game's fundamental principles in his students. He encourages his students to play in tournaments to gain practical experience.
