Dmitry Bocharov is a Russian chess grandmaster. He was born on October 20, 1982 in Novosibirsk, Russia. Bocharov first received the title of Grandmaster (GM) in 2004. He was trained by Nikolai Krymov and Yuriy Kuzubov.
Bocharov has played in both the Russian Chess Championship and European Individual Chess Championship. In the Chess World Cup 2005, he reached the third round before being defeated by Alexei Shirov.
In 2006, he won the 1st Dvorkovich Memorial Rapid tournament held in Moscow, and in 2008, he was part of the Russian team that won the silver medal at the World Mind Sports Games in Beijing. The same year, Bocharov won the Chigorin Memorial tournament in Moscow. In September 2010, he won the Botvinnik Memorial tournament.
In 2017, Bocharov was banned from the Rapid Grand Prix in Grodno after an accusation of cheating was raised against him. Many professional players supported Bocharov, stating that the evidence provided was insufficient. He refuted the accusation and appealed the decision to the Chess Federation of Russia and FIDE, resulting in the lifting of the ban.
Apart from his chess career, Bocharov graduated from the Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics in 2005. He worked for the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry from 2005 to 2010, and has taken part in the Oxford debates and Chess Boxing.
