Fabiano Luigi Caruana is an Italian-American chess player and a chess Grandmaster. He was born on July 30, 1992 in Miami, Florida, United States, and holds dual citizenship of both Italy and the United States.
In his early life, Caruana is noted to have moved to Brooklyn, New York at a young age, where he was introduced to chess. He was homeschooled and he devoted his time to studying and playing chess. At the age of 10, he quickly advanced through the chess ranks to become an International Master. At the age of 14, Caruana became a Grandmaster, making him the world's youngest Grandmaster at the time.
Caruana has won numerous games and tournaments. His career first saw major success when he represented Italy at the Chess Olympiads six times and at the European Team Chess Championships five times. In 2014, he had one of his most notable achievements with his performance in the Sinquefield Cup, where he began by winning his first seven games against the world's highest-rated players.
On December 2015, Caruana transferred to the United States Chess Federation and later in 2016, he participated in his first U.S Chess Championship where he had a close match with Hikaru Nakamura.
He is also a consistent competitor for the World Chess Championship, where he became the Challenger in the 2018 tournament. During the 2018 World Chess Championship held from 9 to 28 November, Caruana played against defending champion Magnus Carlsen, but he was defeated in rapid tiebreaks after all classical games ended in draws.
