Konstantin Chernyshov is a Russian Grandmaster in the strategic board game of chess and was also a former coach to the Hong Kong national team. He was born on 14 September 1967 in Moscow, Russia.


Chernyshov’s career in chess began at a young age as he became an International Master in 1994, and finally obtained the Grandmaster title in 2004. At the age of 40, this achievement made him one of the oldest newly titled Grandmasters.


In 2001, Chernyshov tied for first place in the St. Petersburg Chess Championship and in 2004, he won the RGSU Open in Moscow.


His notable performances include finishing second behind Deepan Chakkravarthy in a tournament in Chennai, India in 2015, and clinching first place in the Luebeck Chess Festival in Germany in 2009.


In his coaching career, Chernyshov worked with the Hong Kong national team from 2013 to 2015, where he helped them attain achievements at various international events.


A highly tactical player, Chernyshov’s playing style has been described as sharp and aggressive, characterised by a strong emphasis on rigorous analysis and impeccable technique. His preference for unconventional openings has also been praised.
