Slavko Cicak is a Swedish chess Grandmaster of Serbian descent, born on 25 March 1969 in Paris, France. Cicak migrated to Sweden with his parents in 1970, where he later developed his love for chess and became one of the prominent figures in the game.
He won the Swedish Junior Chess Championship in 1987 and was awarded the International Master title in 1989. In 2002, he achieved the Grandmaster title by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
Cicak had an impressive record against former world champions, defeating both Anatoli Karpov and Veselin Topalov in 2001 and 2002, respectively. He was also the winner of the Open Norrort tournament held in Stockholm in 2005. He competed in various leading international competitions, including the FIDE World Chess Championships in 2000 and 2004 and the European Individual Championships in 2003, 2008, 2010, and 2017.
As well as his noteworthy accomplishments as a player, Cicak has contributed to the chess community by serving as vice-chairman of the Swedish Chess Academy. He has also worked as a chess coach, helping young players nurture their abilities.
Cicak moved to Kungsbacka, a town on the west coast of Sweden, in 2008, where he continued to be active in the local chess community.
