Roberto Cifuentes Parada is a Dutch-Chilean chess Grandmaster. Born in Chile on April 4, 1954, Cifuentes was trained by Chilean Grandmaster René Letelier. He won the national championship in 1978 and again in 1983.
In 1990, Cifuentes emigrated to the Netherlands and became a naturalised Dutch citizen. He continued to make significant contributions to chess by winning the Dutch championship in 1995 and again in 1997.
Internationally, he has represented both Chile and the Netherlands at the Chess Olympiads, playing for Chile from 1980–1988 and for the Netherlands from 1994–2000. He was declared a Grandmaster by FIDE, the international chess federation, in 1992.
Cifuentes has also been successful in individual competitions. He won the Leiden Chess Tournament in 1996. In spite of his primarily being known as a chess player, Cifuentes is a recognized author and has published several works on chess theory. Additionally, he coaches future chess players and has contributed to the game's development.
