Klaus Darga is a German chess grandmaster best known for his peak performance in the 1960s and 1970s. Born in Plochingen, Germany in February 24, 1934, he quickly developed an interest in chess and won the German Youth Championship at 15.
Darga obtained the International Master title by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) in 1957 and became an International Grandmaster in 1960. His victory at the 1960 Mar del Plata tournament is considered one of his most significant wins. Moreover, he represented West Germany multiple times at the Chess Olympiads from 1958 through 1972, and placed third in 1970 with the team.
Darga's prime chess career spanned over several tournament wins, including San Benedetto (1969), Amsterdam (1970), Manila (1973), Berlin (1974), and Alicante (1977). He retired from chess in 1987 and later took on career in Business Information Technology. Despite his retirement, Darga is still revered as an accomplished chess grandmaster.
